1. Combing before showering

Make sure your hair is tangle-free before you wash your hair. This will lead to less breakages during styling. When brushing your wet and fragile hair, ensure that you only use a wide-tooth comb. Avoid rubbing your hair with a towel after showering. If you can’t let your hair air dry, only use your towel to blot- never rub!

2. Don’t wash your hair too often

Washing your hair everyday can lead to your natural oils (which give your hair that glossy, healthy look) being stripped. Instead, rather skip a day or two between washes. If your hair feels too oily on day 3, sprinkle some talcum powder onto your scalp before you go to bed, which will soak up some of the excess oil. Blow-dry your hair in the morning to get rid of any excess powder.

3. Only shampoo your scalp

To help avoid split and dry ends, only massage your shampoo into your scalp. Do not rub your shampoo into your ends, and don’t pile your hair on top of your head when shampooing. Always give yourself a 1-minute scalp massage when washing your hair. This can stimulate hair growth and can enhance the strength of your roots.

4. Only condition your ends

To help with an oily scalp, when you condition (which you should do every time you wash your hair) ensure you only apply the conditioner to the ends of your hair, not your scalp.

5. Avoid washing your hair with hot water

Although everyone loves a hot shower, washing your hair with hot water can make your hair dry and brittle as it strips away the natural oils from your hair follicles, and can make your scalp itchy. Rather wash your hair under lukewarm water, and for that extra shine, rinse with cold water at the end of your shower.

6. Sleep on a silk pillowcase

Not only does this help with lessening the appearance of wrinkles on your face, it can also help with “bedhead”. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase lessens knotting and tangling in your hair as you sleep, especially if you go to bed with wet hair.

7. Do a treatment at least once a week

A treatment doesn’t have to mean an expensive trip to the salon. Treat your hair to a conditioning mask once a week, by leaving in your Isabella Garcia Pro-Vitamin B5 Conditioner for 10 minutes. For a DIY mask, mix together half a cup of coconut milk and 3 tablespoons of honey and rinse that through your hair from root to tip. Rinse the mixture off after 15 minutes with lukewarm water, then shampoo using your Isabella Garcia Pro-Vitamin B5 Shampoo.

8. Trim to keep your ends healthy

To ensure your hair looks shiny from root to tip, go for a trim at least every 6 weeks. This keeps those split and dry ends at bay. With less split ends, your hair will appear thicker and super shiny!

9. Braid your hair for gym

Although it is really tempting to scrap your hair back into the tightest of buns for your daily workout, this can lead to damaged hair. Watch some YouTube tutorials to teach yourself how to braid your hair. Braids mean your hair is still out of your face, but there is less damage!

10. Avoid harsh UV Rays on your hair

Although Vitamin D, which we get from the sun, can support hair growth, excess exposure to UV Rays can lead to hair protein loss. This can result in weaker hair and duller-looking hair colour. Rather wear a hat in the sun, and get your daily Vitamin D from your food, like fatty fish, egg yolks and cheese.
